Mobilizing the power of research

It can take 15 years for research to turn into care. The Bloorview Research Institute is spreading and scaling new discoveries and technologies that help children with disabilities communicate, learn and navigate the world - and we're doing it faster than ever before.

Shaping the future of pediatric care

As Canada’s hospital for kids with disabilities, Holland Bloorview’s developmental pediatrics subspecialty residency and fellowship program is filling urgent gaps in care. We’re training the next generation of developmental pediatricians to become outstanding clinicians, advocates, innovators and teachers in childhood disability.

23% of children with disabilities encounter healthcare professionals who are not familiar with their condition

Over 75% of young adults with disabilities experience barriers when accessing medical care

“To have a society that’s truly inclusive and truly supportive of all types of abilities is still a possibility for the future. Continuing to equip pediatricians with specialized knowledge is crucial to moving us forward.”

– Dr. Tara Kennedy, developmental pediatrics fellow graduate and one of New Brunswick’s first developmental pediatricians.
